Info for Job Seekers

Job seekers interested in working can contact their local Division of Vocational Rehabilitation office (DVR) learn more about what job supports maybe available to assist them in securing work. Employment Services at ESH works closely with the different DVR Counselors to provide services that match the job seekers interests. In addition, Job Seekers that qualify for Waiver services through the Department of Health Developmental Disabilities (DOH-DD) can talk to their Case Manager about their interest in working. Goals can be developed to support employment outcomes.

Finding the right job match and having the necessary supports to maintain long term success is our goal. We use the Discovery Process. Discovery is the practice to uncover and recognize that each job seeker has valuable contributions to make to potential employers. The Discovery Process reveals the Job Seeker’s meaningful attributes, strengths, skills, and knowledge. Discovery expands a person’s network of supports- otherwise known as social capital. Social capital is a valuable resource which adds quality to our life. Discovery helps people develop a greater sense of self, learn to make decisions that can improve their current quality of life.

A customized plan is developed from what was learned through Discovery. The Customized Employment plan identifies the Job Seeker’s strengths and matches them with employment opportunities to meet unmet business needs. This results in a win-win relationship for the job seeker and Hawaii’s business community. Customized Employment is a dynamic and flexible process designed to incorporate the Discovery Process to identify meaningful career/job matches in the local business settings. Customized Employment personalizes the employment relationship between the Job Seeker and Employer to emphasize mutual benefits.

Looking for work is work! It requires a team effort and commitment from all team members. Call the Employment Services office near you for more information.
